Packing Our Bags For The Columbia Exposition! - 11/7/07

Well, yesterday we spent the whole afternoon trying to finish working on the display board. We placed all the photos, the text and the hooks for the flip pages about the blog on the board, we used foam board to elevate some of the photos and the main captions, to make it look more interesting and 3-D. We stayed a little while longer after our regular shift again to get that accomplished.

Today we are going to place the last of the hooks on for the Camtasia information, glue the box on the front for the brochures, and add our library system website as well as a copy of this blog page to the display. We printed out extra brochures for the brochure box, spoke to Jennifer Howell about our meeting time and transporting the design board. This afternoon we are going to have a dress rehearsal to see what we may still need to do to complete the presentation. We have a box that we have been adding items to that we will need for the presentation, like extension cord, speakers, extra 2-sided tape, flashdrive, etc.

We changed our avatar to suit the occasion.

Guess we'll see everyone in Columbia at the LATI Showcase!

By the way, WE FINISHED OUR RESOURCES AS WELL!

Display Board - 11/05/07

Pam and I spent the early part of the evening trying to decide what type of lettering to use for the display board. I finished laminating the last of the blog prints that I started on Friday. We are going to attach them to the display board using hooks, so that the pages will flip over if someone wants to read them. We will add the last page on Wednesday to it will be current. We also decided to use a hook for the pages that we have printed out for the Camtasia Tutorial.

We decided to print out the lettering on Microsoft Word in red and cut out the words, not the letters. We are going to use some foam board underneath the main titles so they looking somewhat 3-D and we are going to use the same idea on some of the photos from the library tour to add some interest to the display.

Unfortunately, we are not going to be able to fold the display board because of the photos we are using in a collage type of layout on the board. We have laminated the photos so that the colors stand out more and we can cut them for the collage. We have to rig up some sort of support system for the back of the board so that it will stand up.

We are also going to laminate the titles so they aren't so flimsy. We are going to do that tomorrow since we will have our part-time person here (Ellen) to work the desk so we can work on the display board.

That's all for now. Until tomorrow!

Display Board - 11/02/07

Pam came in today so that both of us could work on our display board while Ellen and Marie worked the desk. Marie had brought in adhesive spray for us to use. We decided to use a blue background on the display board to make the photos pop out more and to coincide with the colors we used on our brochure. It took a village, as they say, to spray the adhesive on the paper and then flatten it against the display board. Marie was a BIG help! We opened the window in the work room because the glue smelled so bad.

Now we are working on the photo placement and sort of brainstorming the size of the photos for a collage type effect, along with the letters. Pam has been resizing the photos and cutting them as they pop out of the printer. We also talked about some kind of flipbook so we can have our blog entries on it as well, and have found a box to wrap and attach to the board for our brochures.

Over the weekend we are going to get a stencil for letters so we can use the larger size photo prints as the lettering on the display board, along with some foam board backup to make it look a little more three dimensional.

Our Piece Of Artwork And The Light At The End Of The Tunnel - 10/31/07

Pam and I received the heavier paper today from Renee, our graphics person, to print out our brochure. We used our color printer and the PDF file we had saved of the brochure to make copies for ourselves, 5 copies to attach to our display board and a copy each for John Taube, our director, Lisa McKenney, our supervisor, and Jennifer Howell, the training coordinator for Western Maryland Public Libraries. Jennifer and John will be accompanying us on our trip to Columbia for the presentation. In addition, we made copies for our personnel files and sent them to our supervisor as well.

Then we returned to evaluating more resources ...

Brochure Is Finalized!!! - October 30, 2007

Renee sent Nora an e-mail with a better picture of the logo for us to use on the brochure. She also sent a screen shot from our blog. We decided to use both. We saved the information and printed the brochure. It will look even better once we print it on the heavier paper. Lisa sent an e-mail to us this morning telling us she had converted our brochure to a pdf file.

We printed out a copy of the screen shot from our blog to use on our display board.
We will be working on our display board tomorrow.

And we are continuing to work on our resources as usual. That's all for today.

Brochure Progress!

We met today with Renee Mason, the graphics person for the library system. (She is a part-time employee who does work for the whole library system.) We wanted her input on the colors and layout of our brochure. She provided a few suggestions, mostly regarding placement of text and colors which we are going to try to work on this evening. Renee brought several samples of paper with her for the brochure but thinks we should stick with a white background, of which she may have some heavier stock, based on the colors we have chosen. Then we will finish our work of art, at least brochurewise.

This evening we have a substitute coming in again so that Pam and I can work on the brochure and perhaps get some of the resources done. We are coming down the home stretch with them. We can't wait to say "I am finished my resources!"

We have decided that the last page of our brochure should include a thank you for our co-workers, who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in allowing us time to work on our LATI assignments and projects.

Also, we are having our Halloween celebration here tomorrow with the staff dressing up in costumes and having lunch brought in, so we decided that maybe we can have our photo taken together early in the morning, and then we will add that to one of the brochure pages also.
